"Something is wrong," Pandora breathes. "Something is very very wrong. I know it!"
On the next block they come across Mr. Gully who is sweeping out his now-empty garage.
"Hi, Mr. Gully!" brays Horsehead Miller.
"Hi there, son; hi there, kids. Nice day, isn't it?"
"Looks like you have a clean garage there, Mr. Gully!" says Horsehead, "looks brand new!"
"Why, yes! I just finished! I finally got rid of all that junk! I don't know where it comes from every year! I just can't imagine! Just this last box!" he says heartily through his gray beard and hoists up a cardboard box of THINGS. He carries it out to the sidewalk to a large pile of other THINGS. As the kids amble by, Mr. Gully glances over at Mr. Tippy's pile of THINGS, steps over, picks up a spatula, then a broken wrench, shrugs, and picks up the whole box and carries it up into his clean garage.
At the same time, Mr. Tippy has come out with a last box of his own. He eyes Mr. Gully's pile of THINGS, and says, "well, well, this is sort of cute. Where did you ever get this?"
"Oh, I can't image," laughs Mr. Gully, who has returned to take yet another box from Mr. Tippy's pile. Mr. Tippy shrugs and picks up the box Mr. Gully has just brought out, and starts taking it to his very own garage. Mr. Gully comes back out passing Mr. Tippy and they nod, "I can't imagine. Oh yes, I can't imagine, too"
As they nod, a plaintive cry can be heard somewhere nearby, and a loud rustle of feathers. The sudden noise has an alarming effect on the kids who all stop in mid-step and look spookily around. "Oh, no" breathes Pandora. "Did you hear that?" Even Horsehead Miller looks spooked and licks his lips over his protruding buck teeth.
"This is too weird," says Coach covering his face with his baseball mitt and peeking through the webbing.
"That was the sound we heard at the Bird Lady's house, remember?!" says Nikki.
"I knew it, I knew it!" says Pandora. "That's when all these goofy things started happening!"
